Prior to starting Harris Psychology with Michelle, I worked in the NHS for 18 years with Adults and Older Adults. Through my NHS work I have experience in providing therapeutic support for depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, grief, trauma, loss, adjustment issues, cognitive issues, and interpersonal difficulties.
My therapeutic approach centres on helping clients uncover the root causes of their challenges and identify the factors that sustain these difficulties. This deeper understanding allows us to collaboratively develop an evidence-based intervention tailored to your unique needs. I believe that therapy should progress at a pace that feels comfortable for my clients. I emphasise regular reviews throughout the therapeutic process, providing an opportunity to reflect on how the therapy is going and ensuring that the approach we are using is effective and aligned with your needs.
The therapeutic models I use include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
In addition to having a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Glasgow, which has enhanced my expertise in assessing individuals with neurological conditions. I strongly believe that knowledge is power and that a neuropsychological assessment can help to explain the cognitive difficulties someone is experiencing, the cause of these difficulties, and help to identify appropriate treatment options. I also have experience delivering cognitive rehabilitation and support for caregivers. I like many others, have personal experience of loved ones facing cognitive challenges. I hold this experience in mind when working with clients.
I have worked as an expert witness since 2022, conducting medico-legal assessments for personal injury cases. I completed the Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate in 2024, that is accredited by Aberdeen University. For more information about the type of expert witness work that we do at Harris Psychology see this page.
I recognise the importance of finding a way to adjust to life challenges and transitions and the benefits of living life in line with core personal values. This is an approach that I not only try to live by but one that shapes how I work clinically. Outside work I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and my cats. I also love running (though running doesn’t always love me!)
